Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary prepares: clergy of the Russian Orthodox Church, regents, psalm-readers for Orthodox parishes of the Metropolitan District in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Theological School has two departments: pastoral and regency.

The seminary provides a number of educational programs:

1) Orthodox spiritual education: study of the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, dogmatic, comparative, moral, basic theology, sectology;

2) classical education: study of Biblical history, general church history, history of the Russian Orthodox Church, catechism, Church Slavonic language, Liturgical Rules, Liturgics;

3) music education: studying music theory and solfeggio, church singing, choral studies.

Pupils of the Theological Seminary regularly attend services in the seminary church in the name of St. Philaret of Moscow, in churches in the city of Alma-Ata and the Almaty region and thereby undergo liturgical practice.

The duration of study in the pastoral department is 5 years, in the regency department - 2 years.
The Seminary accepts male and female persons of the Orthodox faith, under the age of 35, with secondary education, single or in their first marriage. Applicants to the regency department must have a primary musical education.

Applicants are subject to admissions tests. They are required to meaningfully know by heart the following prayers:

initial:

“Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee...”, “O Heavenly King...”, “Holy God...”,

“Holy Trinity...”, “Our Father...”, “Come, let us worship...”;

morning:

“Rising from sleep...”, “God, cleanse me, a sinner...”, to the Guardian Angel;

evening:

“Eternal God...”, “To the Almighty, the Word of the Father...”, “Good King, Good Mother...”, Guardian Angel;

Mother of God:

“Virgin Mother of God, rejoice”, “It is worthy to eat...”, “To the chosen Voivode...”, “The door of mercy...”, “Imams have no other help...”;

Creed;

prayers of St. Ephraim the Syrian;

prayers before Holy Communion;

The Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes;

troparions of the twelve feasts, troparion to your saint;

psalms: 50th, 90th.

Applicants must have the ability to read liturgical books (in Church Slavonic), pass a written exam in the Russian language (dictation), as well as an exam in church singing - for those entering the regency class.

The following are submitted to the APDS office:

1. a petition addressed to the Vladyka Rector (based on the seminary model);
2. questionnaire (based on the seminary model);
3. recommendation of the parish priest, certified by the seal of the parish;
4. photographs 6x9 - 2 pcs., 3x4 - 2 pcs.;
5. autobiography;
6. certificate of family composition (copy of the house register)
7. document on education;
8. baptismal certificate;
9. wedding certificate (for married people);
10. medical certificate F-086;
11. copy of the ordination certificate (for persons in the priesthood);
12. a copy of the decree on appointment to the parish (for persons in the priesthood);

The following must be submitted to the office: identification; for males and those liable for military service - a military ID (registration certificate), which must contain a mark on military registration. All students are provided with free food and hostel accommodation.

Department of Education of the Kazakh Metropolis

Department of Distance Education of the Theological and Missionary Faculty is an educational institution of the Russian Orthodox Church for the laity, built on the principles of DISTANCE LEARNING, which is designed to give students complete knowledge in the scope of the course of theological seminaries.

The purpose of Distance Learning of the Theological and Missionary Faculty is:

Acquisition of systematic knowledge about the Orthodox faith by parishioners and employees of churches of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Providing teachers of secular - higher and secondary - educational institutions with a powerful tool for educating young people and reliable knowledge about Orthodox culture.

Assistance to rectors of Orthodox churches in training their own personnel, Orthodox missionaries and teachers of church disciplines for Sunday schools in parishes.

Helping students of correspondence departments of Orthodox theological seminaries organize their studies in a quality manner and gain deep, comprehensive knowledge.

Training period:

Two years - for those wishing to obtain basic knowledge about Orthodoxy (with the award of a certificate).

Four years - for people who have completed the basic course and whose goal is to obtain in-depth knowledge and then apply it in missionary work (with the award of a diploma).

Students of the Distance Learning Department of the Theological and Missionary Faculty can be persons of the Orthodox faith aged 18 to 60 years who have passed an interview.

Those who successfully complete the Distance Learning department of the Theological and Missionary Faculty will be able to become catechists, missionaries, teachers of the Law of God, Church Slavonic language, dogmatic theology, church historical disciplines in Sunday schools and in theological courses at Orthodox parishes.

Since the main task of the Theological and Missionary Faculty is the churching of students, the distance learning system assumes the active participation of our students in the parish life of the churches near which they live.

Principles of distance learning:

Training is conducted remotely via the Internet, without traveling to educational institution.

At the end of the initial and full courses, an on-site examination session is provided.

Distance courses provide a full study of materials in the scope of a theological seminary course.

Duration of training is two + four years. The academic year is divided into two semesters, each of which is divided into seven three-week sections-lessons. Between semesters there are winter and summer holidays.

During the training the following subjects will be studied: New Testament, Old Testament, Catechism, Liturgics, Divine service charter, History of the Russian Orthodox Church, General history of the Church, Church Slavonic language, Dogmatic Theology, Sect studies, Comparative Theology, etc.

The educational process consists of: studying lesson materials prepared by our teachers using a library with specially selected literature, completing tests that are assessed by teachers, participating in joint group work (the whole group responds to a given topic), participating in colloquiums (conversation-survey by the teacher of the whole group in direct broadcast), passing exams at the end of each semester.

There is an opportunity to ask questions to the priest.

TRAINING AT THE FACULTY IS FREE.

Students who successfully complete their studies and pass the exams receive a DIPLOMA from the Theological and Missionary Faculty.

Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary is a higher theological educational institution of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, preparing priests for the Orthodox parishes of the Metropolitan District in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The seminary has pastoral and regency departments, as well as a correspondence education department.

The Almaty Theological Seminary accepts males aged from 17 to 35 years, single, or in their first marriage, with complete secondary or higher education.

The regency department accepts male and female persons of the Orthodox faith with secondary education, with or without musical education.

The duration of study in the pastoral department is 5 years, in the regency department - 2 years.

Training is free. All students are provided with dormitory and meals.

Entrance exams.

Entrance exams require writing a statement and a comprehensive interview with admissions committee on the subject of knowledge of the foundations of the Orthodox faith, Holy Scripture and liturgics. Those entering the regency class take an exam in church singing.

Also, applicants must have the skill of reading liturgical books in Church Slavonic; they are required to have a meaningful knowledge of the following liturgical texts:
