UAZ Hunter gasoline engine, UAZ Hunter diesel engine technical specifications. UAZ "Hunter" - technical characteristics of UAZ Hunter with diesel ZMZ

Antipyretics for children are prescribed by a pediatrician. But there are emergency situations for fever when the child needs to be given medicine immediately. Then the parents take responsibility and use antipyretic drugs. What is allowed to be given to infants? How can you lower the temperature in older children? What medications are the safest?

Again a review of the ZMZ 514 diesel engine. Pros. It drives very well, but compared to the 409 engine it consumes nothing at all! It works quite quietly, so that sometimes the noise of a broken input shaft bearing interrupts it. It doesn't work like a tractor, don't lie. If it works like MTZ, it’s time to put it in order, clean the injectors, move the injection pump. The sound of the turbine is pleasant and pleasing to the ear. And in general, by the second week of driving, the diesel whine becomes very familiar, and you cease to understand how you used to drive gasoline UAZs. Yes, undoubtedly, this is exactly what the UAZ needs. At the same time, you don’t need to pay for 100++ horses, which can barely accelerate a two-ton tank. We have only 90 forces in Euro 3, although there is still a lot of torque. And there are many places where it is needed.

The simplicity of Euro 3 diesel equipment is beyond praise. Remove the block from the brain, throw away the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation system) - and the equipment becomes absolutely reliable! The injection pump will survive not a single such engine, and only a few reasons can prevent the equipment from working - the diesel fuel has run out, the diesel fuel has frozen, the injection pump drive belt has broken (it is 514 ohms from the 16-valve VAZ engine). The latter, although it happens, can be eliminated with the help of a set of tools and what kind then mothers - fortunately there is a belt from a 16-valve ten at every corner. I didn’t find any Euro 2 problems on the E3 engine. For some reason, the fuel lines of the injectors do not break and the heads do not burst. The rest of the 514 motor is the 406 motor, which has long been studied by everyone. Chains and so on - we seem to know how to fix everything.

OK it's all over Now. The sweet nectar is over. Minuses. In terms of reliability of everything except fuel equipment, it’s complete horror. A vacuum pump of any design (except for a pump on a generator) can cause irreparable harm! The ShPG engine, in my opinion, is absolutely beyond repair. There are no repair pistons, and replacing a block is equivalent in terms of money to replacing an engine with a human one. Attempts to re-sleeve it with ohm-six-hundred-six-hundred-something-something lead to replacing the engine with an ohm or TD27... By the way, I’ll be honest. And this can be considered a plus. Problems with the turbine, if any, are fixable. A working Ford drinks liters of oil with the help of a turbo that has been killed to death, and a new one costs from 70k. As for the UAZ, on the Turbotechnika website the price tag is TKR 50.01.03 = 13 thousand rubles. There are only 13 mowers - and for the next 50 thousand, oil can only be filled during replacement, and the engine will respond with excellent performance. Conclusions. ZMZ514 is some kind of miracle, which I myself am very happy to ride, but I would not recommend it to anyone. Very few people can assess the correctness of its operation by the sound of the engine and the indicators of the instruments... And for the 514 engine, the speed at which the driver determines a malfunction is crucial. After all, from the moment your vacuum pump jams to replacing the engine can be a matter of seconds! The same with the shitty chain tensioner that suddenly failed. A few minutes, the circuit breaks and what next? On ZMZ 409 this would cost the replacement of bent valves. On a 514 engine, this is a huge probability of engine death) I’ll just tell you an example - I went to inspect the engine by removing the pan. I felt like there was a problem somewhere. And he

was - the plug was unscrewed from the knee. Unscrew the second one - and that’s it, engine death with a 100% guarantee. By the way, that’s why the turbine died. Only the mighty oil pump 514 of the engine saved the crankshaft from trouble - fortunately, it had enough oil. You will criticize me, saying how could I not notice the low oil pressure? And it wasn’t low. I considered one at idle to be normal for this engine. What would this mistake have cost a less experienced driver? That's right, replacing the engine. I repeat. Good engine. But I would definitely recommend petrol to anyone, there is no such thing as healthy sleep with ZMZ514...

Motor for 469 model

Engines for the UAZ 31514 are available in several versions. Based on the type of fuel, they are divided into gasoline and diesel. Many characteristics of the vehicle, including fuel consumption, depend on which engines are installed in the UAZ.

For example, a UAZ ICE 210.10 gasoline engine with a volume of 2.4 liters has the following characteristics: power - 91 hp. s., fuel consumption - almost 12 liters per 100 km. UMZ 4178.10 engines of the same volume already have 87 horses and fuel consumption increases by one and a half liters.

General characteristics of engines

The main suppliers of engines for UAZs were the Ulyanovsk Motor Plant and the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant. UMZ has become famous for being practically the only Russian manufacturer of engines for off-road vehicles. All modern engines produced from the plant’s assembly line meet Euro-4 standards.

ZMZ produces more than 80 different modifications of engines ranging from 2.2 to 4.6 liters. The units of this plant are installed on both small SUVs and buses of domestic and foreign companies.

There are other types of engines that are installed on UAZ 31514 vehicles:

  • UMZ 4218.10 volume 2.8 l (petrol);
  • ZMZ 410.10 volume 2.9 l (petrol);
  • UMZ 420 with a volume of 2.4 liters (petrol);
  • ZMZ 514 with a volume of 2.2 l (diesel);
  • Andoria 4CT90 2.4 liter (diesel).

The Andoria engine, installed on UAZ 31514, Iveco and UAZ Patriot vehicles, is produced not in Russia, but in Poland. These engines are in demand not only at the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant. They are also installed on other Russian-made vehicles.

Basic engine UMZ 421.10 for UAZ

The base UMZ 421.10 engine with a carburetor system, having a volume of 2.9 liters, runs on gasoline. Has a gas release system. Can operate at temperatures from -50 to +50 degrees Celsius. A modification of this motor was unit 4218.10.

The main difference between the UMZ 4218.10 is the gas exhaust system, which is not configured. This simplifies the installation of the engine on UAZ vehicles, even with a carriage-type body. Currently, motors of this series have several modifications.

UAZ 39626 and Patriot engines

The UAZ 39629, otherwise known as a “sanitary” vehicle, is most often used for transporting patients and is available in most medical centers. Widely used in both cities and rural areas. These machines are equipped with three different engines.

  1. ZMZ-402.
  2. UMZ-4178, similar in characteristics to the first, only the manufacturing plants differ. These engines have a displacement of 2.4 liters and a power of 92 horsepower.
  3. UMZ 4218 with a volume of 2.8 liters and 98 liters. With. under the hood.

UAZ Patriot cars are equipped with a four-cylinder, four-stroke engine of the ZMZ 409.10 series. The valves are located at the top, and the cooling is liquid. The ignition system of this engine is microprocessor-based, fuel injection is distributed. The ZMZ-51432 diesel engine for the UAZ Patriot is simply a necessity.

Diesel fuel is more economical and practical

In Russia, diesel fuel is gradually becoming fashionable, but until recently the production of diesel engines was just a plan. Foreign diesel engines, as a rule, were not suitable for the UAZ Patriot, and attempts to aggregate them were abandoned.

Reviews of the UAZ Patriot diesel engine from the foreign company IVECO F1A end negative reviews about its quality. Maybe because Ulyanovsk or Trans-Volga engines are more common for Russian cars. The volume of the foreign engine is 2.3 liters and the power is 116 horses. The Italian engine is noisier and less powerful. However, owners of a Patriot with a foreign engine will be pleased with good traction and fairly economical fuel consumption - just under 10 liters per 100 km.

Not long ago, the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant began producing a diesel engine for the UAZ Patriot and UAZ Pickup SUVs. The ZMZ-51432 engine is a small-displacement engine, its volume is 2.2 liters, and complies with the Euro-4 standard. The engine has a maximum power of 114 horsepower, 3500 rpm and low fuel consumption.

The engine has many original parts, which has improved its energy and economic performance. At the same time, emissions have decreased harmful substances: twice as much as engines compliant with Euro 3. The noise level has decreased in accordance with standard requirements.

Characteristics of the UAZ 469 engine

The UAZ 469 has a 4-cylinder engine of the UMZ 417 series with a volume of 2.5 liters. The power of such an engine reaches 75 horses, the valves are located at the top. The fuel supply system is forced. Closed cooling system, liquid with forced circulation. The nuance of this engine is quite decent fuel consumption, up to 16 liters per hundred.

Two different modifications of this engine are installed on the UAZ 469 for two different purposes. UMZ 4178 - for ordinary civilian models, UMZ 4179 - for military ones. The difference between “military” motors is that they are equipped with a distribution sensor and high-voltage shielded wiring. In addition, they have a special place for heating.

A distinctive feature of the UMZ 417 series engine is the special design of the combined cylinder block and the upper part of the crankcase into a single unit, made of high-strength aluminum alloy. The cylinders are wet removable liners and are cast from gray cast iron. The wear resistance of the liner is ensured by acid-resistant cast iron in the upper part.

Aluminum cylinder head assembly for UMZ 417 engine

The cylinder head is common to all cylinders and is made of aluminum alloy, just like the pistons. The five-bearing crankshaft is made of magnesium cast iron.

Features of the Hunter engine

The UAZ Hunter, which replaced the UAZ 469 in 2003, is equipped with both gasoline and diesel engines. The differences between the gasoline and diesel engines in Hunter are minor.

The base power unit for this car was the four-cylinder ZMZ 409.10 with a volume of 2.7 liters. The engine is equipped with a 16-valve mechanism and distributed fuel injection. The power of the unit reaches 128 horsepower. The engine's appetite is up to 13 liters per 100 km.

The diesel engine for Hunter brand ZMZ 5143.20 has four cylinders arranged in a row. The engine capacity is 2.2 liters and has a fuel injection system. In terms of economy, the diesel engine is significantly superior to its gasoline counterpart. It requires a maximum of 10 liters per 1000 kilometers. But the dynamics suffer slightly; diesel in this regard is slightly inferior to gasoline.

The engine reliability of the UAZ Hunter is the highest. The main thing, as the developers convince, proper care and timely repair of failed parts. The engines perform well in off-road conditions in terms of traction development and are not capricious in harsh Russian winters.

Example of engine tuning

Tuning engines installed on UAZ vehicles is not so easy to do. Any interference with the motor may result in a decrease in traction force. And the models of many engines are outdated, so too many innovations and changes can play a cruel joke on them.

It is possible, of course, to modernize some mechanisms and systems. Changes to the piston group must be carried out with caution, following the instructions. The piston rings are replaced with forged ones, which are of higher quality and stronger. The well-known company "Götze" produces just such rings. If desired, you can install other parts, but the work will require a professional approach and the appropriate tools.

You can balance the crankshaft of a UAZ 31514 car at home only with a flywheel. By installing the crankshaft on one of the ribs of the T-shaped plates, the heaviest point is determined. The crankshaft will roll along the plates until it stops with the heaviest point down. From this point you will need to remove a small layer of metal, periodically checking the result.

The timing belt has a number of features, so it is better for non-specialists not to change its design. Moreover, the camshaft is tuned only for sporting purposes. If something goes wrong, engine performance will only worsen.

The intake and exhaust manifolds on the UAZ 31514 are tuned by many car owners. The primary task is to eliminate the step between the windows and the collectors. The holes often don't line up.

Serrations inside the commutator bore can be removed by rough machining or more thorough polishing. This modification will improve engine performance in terms of uniform filling of the cylinders and improve its performance.

Any SUV must have a powerful engine with good traction in order to cope with off-road driving conditions and rough terrain. What kind of engine does the manufacturer equip the domestic Hunter SUV with?

UAZ Hunter engines

The UAZ company decided not to produce a new model of the power plant, but took the old, already well-proven 409 engine from the Patriot and installed it on the UAZ Hunter.

Since 2003, the SUV has been equipped with a 2.2-liter power plant, but not so long ago it was decided to abandon it. Now the 2018 UAZ Hunter is equipped with a modernized (new) 409 gasoline engine with a volume of 2.7 liters. In addition, drivers were offered a good alternative by also releasing a version with a 2.3-liter diesel power plant.

In this article we will try to understand these engines in detail and highlight all the advantages and disadvantages. We will also try to answer which engine is better to install in the UAZ Hunter.

UAZ Hunter: petrol engine ZMZ-409

The displacement of this power plant, as mentioned above, is an impressive 2.7 liters. The maximum power that it is capable of delivering is a little bit 128 horsepower.

ZMZ-409 will feel great if it is fueled with an inexpensive brand of A-92 fuel. By comparison, all foreign SUVs require A-95.

The UAZ Hunter with this engine is capable of reaching only 130 km/h on the highway - a relatively low figure, what can we say. As for the acceleration time to its first 100 km/h, the numbers are really funny - Hunter can do it in no less than 35 seconds. Fuel consumption on the highway reaches just over 13 liters. The manufacturer did not indicate how much he uses while driving over rough terrain.

What is the main advantage of the ZMZ-409? It has excellent traction, making this SUV an ideal workhorse that can go anywhere and carry a huge load.

The design features of this power plant are at the same time a slight drawback. The fact is that the hydraulic tensioner quite often fails, and coupled with weak tension, this leads to noise when the engine is running. Hydraulic compensators are also not reliable and therefore require frequent replacement. Fortunately, Hunter parts are very easy to find and don't cost much.

UAZ Hunter: diesel

The diesel power plant has a smaller displacement - only 2.2 liters, but has a number of other advantages over the gasoline one. Firstly, it has much better torque, which is almost irreplaceable when driving over rough terrain. Secondly, it has significantly higher environmental and fuel efficiency indicators.

It also produces less power - 114 horsepower, but at the same time it requires only 10.5 liters when driving on the highway, which is as much as 3 liters less than the gasoline one.

Replacing the UAZ Hunter engine

When is it necessary to repair or replace the power plant on a UAZ Hunter? First of all, when the first signs of its malfunction appear. The first such signal may be noise during its operation - this most often happens with gasoline engines; diesel looks much better in this regard.

The replacement procedure itself is very complex and requires a lot of skills, and therefore it is best to carry it out in a specialized service center, where specialists work.

You can also find out more about the replacement in the following video:

Bottom line: which engine is better?

The findings were mixed. Since the gasoline engine has a large displacement and high power, it copes well with the transportation of goods, turning into a real workhorse. On the other hand, it requires more fuel and is more susceptible to breakdowns.

A diesel engine has better torque and consumes less fuel. At the same time, its power is lower, and therefore it cannot withstand high loads.

UAZ Hunter engine, which you see in the photo in our article, is installed from the Patriot model. Both gasoline and diesel engines of the UAZ Hunter are exactly the same as those of the Patriot. The 2.7-liter gasoline engine produces 128 hp, the 2.3-liter diesel engine produces a little less, only 114 horses, but the diesel engine’s torque is not comparable. Today we will tell you in detail about the design and characteristics of UAZ Hunter engines.

Gasoline engine UAZ Hunter ZMZ-409, this is a 4-cylinder, 16-valve, in-line, with an integrated microprocessor fuel injection control system. Fuel injection is carried out into the intake pipe. An ignition system with coils that supply current to spark plugs screwed vertically into the center of the combustion chambers. There are even special wells in the cylinder head cover for this purpose. A microprocessor system with an electronic engine control unit automatically controls the ignition timing.

The cylinder block of the UAZ Hanter power unit is cast from cast iron, the cylinder head is aluminum, with two camshafts and hydraulic valve compensators. Timing chain drive. At the same time, the chain device of the gas distribution mechanism of the Hunter engine is very complex, since it consists of two chains connected through an intermediate shaft. Plus there are two hydraulic chain tensioners with sprockets. This entire structure is a weak point of the entire engine, since insufficient tension and breakdown of the hydraulic tensioner lead to increased noise of the UAZ engine. In addition, hydraulic compensators often fail, which leads to knocking in the valve mechanism.

Engine UAZ Hunter 2.7 petrol (128 hp) characteristics, fuel consumption

  • Working volume – 2693 cm3
  • Number of cylinders – 4
  • Number of valves – 16

Naturally, the manufacturer does not provide objective data on the fuel consumption of the gasoline Hunter in urban conditions. The reason is clear; rather high fuel consumption can scare off buyers. If you want to save on fuel, then buy a UAZ Hunter with a diesel engine, which we will talk about later.

Diesel UAZ Hunter assembled at the same Zavolzhsky Motor Plant. In-line 4-cylinder, 16-valve power unit with two camshafts. Timing chain drive, with hydraulic tensioners. The valve mechanism has hydraulic compensators. The cylinder block is cast iron, the cylinder head is aluminum, there is a turbocharger. The ZMZ-51432.10 CRS diesel engine with a Common Rail fuel supply system has an electronically controlled “BOSCH” fuel supply system with a maximum injection pressure of 1450 bar. For the injection pump drive (fuel pump high pressure), the water pump and the generator use a poly V-belt with an automatic tensioning mechanism.

UAZ Hunter diesel engine, with direct fuel injection, turbocharging and charge air cooling, complies with the Euro-4 environmental class. This engine has good torque, which is indispensable for off-road use, plus quite moderate fuel consumption. Below are detailed characteristics of the Hunter diesel engine.

The Hunter diesel unit, like its gasoline counterpart, with the same design as the Patriot engines, has higher fuel consumption rates, but the maximum speed is lower. This can be explained by the design features of the UAZ Hunter itself.

The upcoming publication is intended for owners of domestic SUVs. The features of the power units that equip the UAZ Hunter are discussed in detail in the following article. The most common tuning techniques used by enterprising owners to improve their iron horse are also outlined.

What power plants are equipped with the UAZ Hunter. Engine size and other characteristics

Perhaps it’s worth starting with the fact that several engine options are available for the Russian SUV. Gasoline and diesel units differ in their performance characteristics, not least of which are power and fuel consumption.

General description of UAZ engines

It is known that the volume of the power unit affects, first of all, the power of the car. In addition, the size of the vehicle directly depends on it. It is unwise to equip a large machine with a small-capacity motor, since its output will not be enough to control a large mass. The opposite is also inappropriate - equipping a light car with a high-power engine.

The power units that drive the UAZ Hunter are manufactured by domestic manufacturers: the Ulyanovsk and Zavolzhsky motor plants. In addition, another supplier of engines for the Hunter is Poland, which produces the Andoria model.

The basic power plant for UAZ vehicles is the UMZ 421.10 engine. The distinctive features of this gasoline unit are its 2.9 liter volume, gas exhaust system and carburetor mechanism. Its adaptability to the changeable domestic weather is expressed by the possibility of operation at temperatures from −50 to +50 0 C. Its modification is the motor 4218.10.

The use of an untuned exhaust system in UMP 4218.10 is considered a definite achievement of automotive engineering. This innovation makes it possible to install such an engine even on cars with a carriage body type.

Features of the UAZ Hunter gasoline power unit

The hunter first left the assembly line in 2003, becoming a worthy replacement for the UAZ 469. The car is perfectly adapted to various types of engines, both gasoline and diesel.

ZMZ 409.10, with a capacity of 2.7 liters, is considered the basic unit for the UAZ Hunter. Each of the four cylinders of the engine is equipped with four valves. Fuel injection is carried out by a distributed system. The motor is capable of achieving output equal to the efforts of 128 horses.

To cover 100 km, the power unit requires up to 13 liters of fuel. An attractive option for budget-conscious domestic motorists is the possibility of using inexpensive AI-92 gasoline.

Cast iron cylinder liners are housed in an aluminum block. On its head, made of the same lightweight material, there are two camshafts, complemented by hydraulic compensators.

A rather complex timing drive deserves special consideration. The two chains connected via the intermediate shaft are equipped with two corresponding hydraulic tensioners with sprockets. Unfortunately, such a device is not one of the advantages of the engine. Unreliability of parts causes the following unpleasant symptoms:

  • increased noise during operation of the power plant is explained by weak chain tension or failure of the hydraulic tensioner;
  • Frequent malfunction of hydraulic compensators leads to an annoying knocking sound in the valve system.

It should be separately noted the increased fuel consumption of the engine in urban conditions, which the prudent manufacturer chose to keep silent about in the technical specifications. However, experienced drivers call the number up to 20 liters. Therefore, motorists who want to save on fuel equip the UAZ Hunter with a diesel unit.

Diesel for the Hunter

As noted above, the UAZ Hunter can be equipped with any type of engine using different types fuel. The main manufacturer of diesel units for domestic SUVs is the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant.

The basic installation for the Hunter is considered to be ZMZ-51432.10 CRS. Its four cylinders, arranged in one row, correspond to 16 valves. The engine is equipped with two camshafts.

The gas distribution system is represented by a chain drive, supplemented by hydraulic tensioners. The valve mechanism has been improved with special hydraulic compensators.

The cylinder block made of aluminum, with a head made of the same material, is distinguished by the presence of a turbocharger. The fuel supply is controlled by the BOSCH electronic system. A maximum pressure of 1450 bar is used for fuel injection. It drives the injection pump, water pump and generator, a special V-ribbed belt, the tension of which is controlled by an automatic system.

For the Russian SUV UAZ Hunter, a diesel engine with a displacement of 2235 cm 3 is used, which can be compared in power with 113 horses. Very moderate fuel consumption is attractive. When driving on a mixed-cycle highway, the engine consumes 10.6 liters of fuel.
