Pharmacodynamics

Xylometazoline, an imidazoline derivative, is a sympathomimetic with alpha-adrenergic effects. Being a direct-acting alpha-adrenergic agonist with no effect on beta-adrenergic receptors, xylometazoline does not have an indirect sympathomimetic effect through the release of norepinephrine. Due to the structural similarity of xylometazoline and norepinephrine, stimulation of alpha-1 and alpha-2 receptors caused by xylometazoline leads to vasoconstriction. This helps reduce swelling of the mucous membranes and improve the outflow of secretions, which leads to easier nasal breathing.

Sterile isotonic sea water, which is part of the drug, helps maintain the normal physiological state of the nasal mucosa, reduces the viscosity of secretions and normalizes its production by goblet cells of the nasal mucosa, improves function ciliated epithelium, which increases the resistance of the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses to the introduction of pathogenic bacteria and viruses. In addition, sea water helps to wash away and remove allergens and haptens from the nasal mucosa and reduce the local inflammatory process.

Indications for use

    acute rhinitis respiratory diseases

    allergic rhinitis

    to improve the outflow of secretions during inflammation of the paranasal sinuses, as well as with catarrhal inflammation of the middle ear associated with colds

Drug interactions

Concomitant use of Snoop®, tricyclic antidepressants, tranylcypromine-type monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors or other drugs that cause hypertension leads to an increase in blood pressure. The combined use of Snoop® with these drugs should be avoided.

special instructions

Carefully Snoop® should be used for the following conditions:

    in patients taking MAO inhibitors or other drugs that can increase blood pressure

    with increased intraocular pressure (especially with angle-closure glaucoma)

    with pheochromocytoma

    for metabolic disorders (for example, hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus)

    for porphyria

    with prostate adenoma.

Patients with chronic rhinitis can use the drug only under medical supervision, due to the risk of developing atrophy of the nasal mucosa.

With prolonged use and/or overdose, reactive hyperemia of the nasal mucosa may develop, which leads to narrowing of the airways (the “rebound” phenomenon). The consequence of this is the development of chronic drug-induced rhinitis, which can lead to atrophy of the nasal mucosa.

The duration of treatment in children is determined by the doctor.

Difficulty breathing, runny nose, and mucous discharge worsen the patient’s condition and are fraught with complications. Children have a particularly difficult time dealing with a runny nose. To prevent these symptoms, the pediatrician prescribes a nasal spray - Snoop for children. This new drug from the German company STADA has received good reviews from doctors and parents.

The main active ingredient is xylometazoline. Spray when applied locally for a few minutes:

  • Reduces swelling and redness;
  • Prevents the formation of mucus;
  • Normalizes the sense of smell;
  • Restores breathing through the nose.

Elimination of symptoms occurs due to the adrenomimetic activity of xylometazoline.

Composition and packaging

The dosage of xylometazoline hydrochloride in Snoop is presented in two options:

  • A spray containing 500 mcg of the main component (0.05% solution) in 1 ml.
  • Nasal preparation 0.1%, containing twice the active substance of the previous one.

A nasal spray with a lower dosage is used in pediatric practice. For the safe use of the baby spray, the packaging is colored blue, the concentration of the solution on it and on the bottle is highlighted in the same font. The design of the Snoop spray with a higher dosage is shown in red. In addition to the active substance, the spray contains:

  • Sea and purified water.
  • Potassium dihydrogen phosphate.

Sea water helps cleanse the nasal mucosa due to the content of natural salts. The German company produces a spray in the form of polyethylene bottles with a capacity of 15 ml. The drug is used using a spray system. Snoop Drops are a clear, colorless liquid. The bottle contains 150 doses of the drug. Elimination of rhinitis symptoms lasts 5-6 hours. Snoop is a local medicine recommended for eliminating symptoms during colds, allergies, and infectious diseases. Instructions for using the medicine are included in each consumer package.

Indications for use

SNUP is used for diseases with acute nasopharyngitis (runny nose). In addition, the drug is used for the following pathologies:

  • Acute of allergic origin;
  • Inflammation and blockage of the eustachian (auditory) tube;
  • (as an additional means to reduce swelling).
  • With seasonal(),
  • When examining the nasal mucosa (rhinoscopy).

Features of use

Before 2 years of age, the spray is not prescribed to children. This is due to the risk of spreading infection when sprayed into the nasal passages. Pediatricians recommend children's Snoop to children who reach two years of age. after 6 years a spray with a concentration of 0.1% is prescribed. To avoid side effects, the drug is used as prescribed by a doctor, within the prescribed period. After purchasing a new bottle, do a test spray. The procedure for using the drug consists of the following points:

  1. Before spraying the spray into the nostril, warm salted water or pharmaceutical liquids (Aqualor) are instilled into the nose using a medical syringe without a needle.
  2. Then remove the solution from the nose with an aspirator if the baby cannot blow his nose on his own.
  3. Tilt the child's head slightly and insert the tip of the spray into the nostril at an angle of 90°.
  4. While inhaling, the baby is sprayed. After injection, the child can exhale through the mouth.

The dosage of the drug is determined individually, depending on the condition of the small patient. If he is 2 years old, the pediatrician prescribes a spray with a concentration of 0.05% once a day. In some cases, the dosage is increased to 3 injections. Upon reaching 6 years of age, the child is injected with 0.1% Snoop into each nostril three times a day. The duration of treatment is no more than 3 days, rarely the pediatrician prescribes up to a week. Snoop is a vasoconstrictor drug that can be addictive.

Snoop has the following contraindications:

  • Age restrictions;
  • Heart diseases occurring with;
  • (thyrotoxicosis);
  • Condition after surgery on the meninges;
  • on the components of the drug;
  • Atrophic rhinitis;
  • Increased arterial;

The medicine should be used with caution in children suffering from diabetes mellitus and cardiac ischemia.

Side effects

Side effects are observed with prolonged use of the spray and are manifested by the following symptoms:

  • Constant sneezing;
  • The appearance of mucus;
  • Burning in the nose;
  • Irritation of the inner lining of the nasopharynx.

Long-term use of the medicine leads to the reappearance of a runny nose.

After discontinuation of the drug, treatment to restore the nasal mucosa begins. Undesirable effects from the nervous system, such as depressed mood, headache, are rarely observed. Exceeding the dosage is fraught with hypertension (rapid heartbeat), heart rhythm disturbances. From the gastrointestinal tract it is possible.

Interaction

It is not recommended to prescribe a spray with drugs that enhance vasoconstrictor effects, such as monoamine oxidase inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants. In addition, the simultaneous use of drugs containing adrenomimetics leads to increased vasoconstrictor effects and causes side effects.

Analogs

Preparations based on xylometazoline are widely represented in the pharmacy chain. However, only Snoop contains sea water, which distinguishes it from its analogues. Sea water is a natural isotonic salt solution that moisturizes the nasal mucosa and has an antibacterial effect. If Snoop is not available in the pharmacy, you can purchase the following analogues:

Snoop is widely used in pediatric practice due to its composition, quick effect, convenient use and accurate dosage. However, the spray must be used as prescribed by a doctor, observing the dosage and timing of treatment.

Runny nose, nasal congestion, increased tearfulness, decreased sense of smell - each of these signs is a characteristic clinical manifestation of colds, which significantly worsen the quality of life and have a negative impact on overall well-being.

Highly effective snoop nasal drops will help you cope with problems of this kind, the instructions for use of which are described in detail below.

The medicine is used for inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract, helping to relieve swelling and hyperemia of the nasal mucosa, restore patency of the nasal passages, and reduce the amount of mucous secretions. To avoid negative reactions from the body, it is recommended to use snoop drops only after consultation with your doctor.

Composition and release form

Snoop nasal spray is a vasoconstrictor that helps relieve swelling, reduce the volume of mucous secretions and normalize nasal breathing. The therapeutic effect is due to the main active ingredient of the drug, which is xylometazoline hydrochloride. The concentration of the component can vary from 0.1 to 0.05 mg, depending on the purpose of the product. The minimum dosage is recommended for use in the treatment of children.

In addition, vasoconstrictor drops contain purified sea water and dihydrogen phosphate. These components are auxiliary, but also have a beneficial effect on the mucous tissues of the nose, promoting their moisturizing, cleansing, and healing.

On the modern pharmacological market, snoop is presented in the form of a spray. This option for releasing the drug is especially convenient, since the active ingredients of the drug are evenly distributed to the mucous tissues of the nasal cavity. Each bottle of the product contains one hundred and fifty single doses.

Snoop

pharmachologic effect

The drug snoop, thanks to the medicinal components included in its composition, is included in the pharmacological group of vasoconstrictor drugs. Penetrating into the upper layers of mucous tissue. active substances help relieve swelling, hyperemia, and normalize breathing through the nose. Within a few hours, the pharmacokinetics of the drug allows it to have a targeted effect, helping to eliminate the unpleasant symptoms of diseases caused by upper respiratory tract infections.

Indications for use

  • Acute allergic rhinitis. The use of snoop is required exclusively to eliminate a runny nose of an allergic nature. The use of medicine for the purpose of providing a preventive effect is unacceptable.
  • Hay fever.
  • Sinusitis.
  • Eustachite.
  • Infectious inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract of varying degrees of severity.
  • Acute respiratory diseases.
  • Diseases of the upper respiratory tract of catarrhal pathogenesis, that is, associated with the release of large amounts of mucous and purulent masses.
  • Otitis media as part of other diseases of similar etiology.

The active ingredients included in the drug contribute not only to vasoconstrictor, but also anti-inflammatory effects. However, to eliminate existing diseases, it is important to use the spray only in combination with other drugs that have antibacterial properties. In addition, due to the ability of snoop to improve the patency of the nasal passages, it is recommended to use the drug before, for example, rhinoscopy, as well as other diagnostic manipulations in the nasal passages.

Contraindications

It is permissible to use snoop nasal spray only if there are no contraindications. The list of restrictions in this case is standard for drugs with vasoconstrictor properties. The main ones include:

  • Tachycardia.
  • The risk of developing allergic reactions to any individual components of the product.
  • Persistent arterial hypertension.
  • Rhinitis associated with atrophy, that is, significant thinning of the mucous tissues of the nasal cavity.

Also, the main contraindications include pregnancy and childhood. If a woman who is breastfeeding needs to use a nasal snoop for therapeutic purposes, it is important to complete lactation during treatment.

Directions for use and doses

Just like any other nasal remedy, snoop should be used by injecting the medicine into each nostril. To obtain optimal results, it is important to completely clear the nose of any mucus buildup beforehand. For this purpose, it is recommended to use saline solutions and special syringes. Otherwise, quickly achieving a therapeutic effect will be somewhat problematic.

  • Adults and children over 6 years of age should inject the drug no more than three times a day. A single dosage of the product is determined by one click on the bottle. For adults, as well as children after six years of age, a medicine should be used whose concentration of the active substance is 0.1 mg.
  • For children of a younger age category, in this case - from two to six years old, the procedure should also be carried out three times throughout the day. However, it is permissible to use only a product where the concentration of the main component is 0.05 mg for treatment.

Due to the presence of a potent ingredient in the drug snoop, it can be used no more than three times a day. P In this case, the total duration of the treatment course cannot exceed seven days. If further treatment is necessary due to the lack of positive dynamics, you should agree on the possibility of using Snoop with your doctor.

special instructions

There are several features of using the drug for the nose snoop. First of all, it is necessary to answer the question of whether the drug is suitable for children. The drug belongs to the category of medications that are often used in pediatric practice. However, they should only treat children over two years of age. In addition, it is important to use it only if prescribed by a doctor.

Additional recommendations include the following: before using the product, it is important to clear the nasal passages of pathogenic mucus. This should be done using disinfectant saline solutions. A cleansing procedure is required before each use of Snoop nasal product.

And finally, the most important rule is that Snoop should not be used for more than seven days. Long-term use can cause drying of mucous tissues, the appearance of microdamages, and a deterioration in the general condition of the patient. It is especially important to remember this for people suffering from allergic forms of rhinitis. If after the treatment course the runny nose has not been eliminated, you should replace snoop with another nasal remedy.

Side effects

Regardless of the duration of use of the drug for the nose snoop, the possibility of developing side effects is no exception. The main ones include, for example:

  • It is possible that blood pressure may increase, as well as an increase in heart rate. As a rule, such a side effect occurs in people suffering from diseases of the heart muscle. To prevent possible negative consequences, snoop should be used for the nose in reduced dosages.
  • Often, with the use of increased dosages of the drug, negative reactions from the digestive tract are observed, such as the appearance of severe nausea, and in some cases, vomiting.
  • Possible negative reactions from the body are: headaches, dizziness, sleep disturbances.
  • Direct impact on the mucous tissues of the nose can lead to their drying out, irritation, soreness, and microcracks. To eliminate these negative consequences, it is recommended to systematically moisturize the nasal cavity, as well as cleanse it with salt solutions.

It should be noted that most often side effects occur when the recommended dosage of the drug is exceeded. Accordingly, to reduce possible risks, it is important to use the medicine only according to the recommendations of the attending physician. If the dosage has been reduced, but side effects persist, you should stop using snoop. It is important to remember that a runny nose is not an independent disease, but a consequence of existing pathologies.

To eliminate this symptom, it is important to direct therapeutic measures to treat the underlying disease.

With the onset of cold weather, cases of influenza and acute respiratory infections are common. The symptoms of a cold - cough, runny nose, sore throat - are quite unpleasant and require immediate elimination, especially in children. Modern pharmacology offers a huge number of drugs in drops and sprays that solve this problem. Relatively recently, a drug of German origin “Snoop” for children appeared on the Russian market; it is a vasoconstrictor, which contains sea water and xylometazoline.

In January 2009, a new drug designed to combat rhinitis appeared among the products of the pharmaceutical company STADA CIS. Among other products on the pharmaceutical market, the German spray “Snoop” (for children and adults) is the first to contain xylometazoline, which is designed to eliminate swelling and make breathing easier. And it maintains the physiological state of the nasopharyngeal mucosa. The drug quickly facilitates nasal breathing, its effect is evident from the first minutes of use.

Use of the drug

Plastic packaging in the form of a spray provides easy and comfortable treatment of the nose at a convenient time and anywhere, in addition, this method allows you to accurately dose the liquid and evenly irrigate the nasal cavity. Many young mothers praise the drug “Snoop” for children; the reviews speak for themselves.

Snoop (spray) is used to relieve:

  • acute allergic rhinitis;
  • eustachitis;
  • sinusitis;
  • hay fever;
  • acute respiratory diseases with a runny nose.

The spray is released in two dosages:

  • For children from 6 years old and for adults - Snoop 0.1% spray.
  • For children 2-6 years old - “Snoop 0.05%” spray.

After use, the effect of the drug lasts up to 10 hours, which allows its infrequent use - no more than 3 times a day.

Children's drops "Snoop": the advantages of the product

  • The solution is prepared on the basis of sea water. The liquid is sterile and does not contain preservatives.
  • Almost instantaneous and at the same time long-lasting action.
  • Highly economical - one 15 ml bottle contains 166 doses.
  • Unbreakable bottle with convenient spray.
  • Available without a prescription.

Price and contraindications of the drug

At a very reasonable cost, the Snoop spray for children (its price ranges from 130 Russian rubles) is quite effective.

The medicine should be discontinued or used with caution if:

  • lactation period;
  • prostatic hyperplasia;
  • diabetes;
  • thyrotoxicosis;
  • childhood;
  • surgical interventions in the past on the meninges;
  • glaucoma;
  • severe atherosclerosis;
  • tachycardia;
  • high blood pressure;
  • sensitivity to the components of the drug.

How to use drops for adults. "Snoop" for children: instructions for use

Children aged 2-6 years should inject 1 pump of Snoop 0.05% spray into each nasal opening no more than 3 times a day.

Children over 6 years old and adults should irrigate the nasal cavity once with Snoop 0.1% spray up to 3 times a day.

Using the drug more than three times a day is not recommended. Duration of treatment is up to 1 week.

Immediately before use, clean the nasal cavity. You should not spray the medicine for a longer period of time, especially if you are using Snoop spray for children for the first time, the instructions for use must certainly be kept in case the child has an allergic reaction or to clarify any other aspects of treatment.

Side effect of the medicine

Long-term or too frequent use may cause dryness or irritation of the nasal mucosa, as well as excessive mucus secretion, sneezing and burning. In rare cases, swelling of the nasal mucosa, blurred vision, insomnia, vomiting, headache, high blood pressure, arrhythmia, tachycardia, and depression are observed with fairly long-term use of large doses.

At the time of overdose, the side effects intensify. With such symptoms, it is important to immediately consult a specialist.

Prescribing nasal spray for young children

Before you begin treating your child, you must carefully study the instructions. Sprays often used by adults seem harmless, but they are strictly contraindicated for children under 1 or even 2 years of age. Spray "Snoop" for children in a small dosage is prescribed to children from 2 years of age, it is advisable to consult a doctor before starting use. Neglecting the instructions can threaten the child’s health; for example, inept treatment of a runny nose can lead to more serious consequences and complicate the condition of a small patient.

- what to do?

Quite often, when nasal congestion occurs, adults choose an effective remedy for themselves: drops, sprays, etc. However, during pregnancy everything changes radically; prescribing something for yourself on your own is quite risky, and the choice of remedies is very small. Self-medication or advice from friends in this case can be costly for both mother and baby. It should be understood that nasal congestion throughout the nine months of pregnancy is a temporary condition, and after childbirth everything will improve.

The other side of the coin

A runny nose during pregnancy can be not only unpleasant, but also dangerous. This may be due to the presence of a viral disease in the body; viruses pose a great threat during the formation of the placenta and internal organs of the fetus. At this stage, the child’s central nervous system may be the first to be affected.

Although this is the result of raging hormones in the mother's body, and as a rule, no special treatment is required, you still need to be careful. For example, the air entering through the mouth is not cleaned and warmed, as with nasal breathing, therefore, a woman has a greater risk of catching an infectious or cold disease.

One should not lose sight of the fact that with nasal congestion there is a risk of developing fetal hypoxia (lack of oxygen), which is also extremely undesirable for mother and baby.

during pregnancy: can it be used?

It is widely believed that nasal drops should not be used during pregnancy. This is due to the fact that nasal drops have a systemic effect, which means the drug influences not only the vessels located in the nasal cavity, but throughout the body. Vasospasm caused by the drug can lead to a decrease in the amount of blood supplied to the fetus, which means oxygen deficiency occurs. The use of vasoconstrictor drops in early pregnancy is considered especially undesirable.

However, despite all these plausible facts, no effective research has yet been conducted on the effect of such drops on a child in the womb. Therefore, it is generally accepted that this remedy is dangerous for expectant mothers.

But, on the other hand, leaving a runny nose without treatment is also not a good idea, because if the mother has difficulty breathing, the child, accordingly, feels a lack of oxygen. Therefore, based on the history of the expectant mother and her current condition, the doctor can still prescribe the drug “Snoop” for children during pregnancy. It should be used briefly and without much fanaticism, strictly following the instructions of a specialist. Do not under any circumstances increase the dosage or frequency of use.

Achievements

According to analytical estimates, in 2009, 35 new trade names appeared on the Russian pharmaceutical market among vasoconstrictors for the treatment of rhinitis. In a highly competitive environment, STADA CIS was able to introduce an absolute novelty to the domestic market, the drug “Snoop” for children (0.05%) and for adults (0.1%), which in 2009 ranked in the second ten in terms of sales in its segment . The success of the brand is due to the undoubted quality of the product at a very reasonable price. Let's hope for the further successful development of the brand, which will entail the creation of new highly effective drugs.

The drug Snoop in the form of a spray helps children cope with symptoms of nasal congestion of various etiologies. This product is available with different contents of the active substance, which allows it to be used in the treatment of even the smallest patients. Despite its safety for children's health, Snoop is recommended for use by children only after consultation with a pediatrician. In addition, before taking the medicine, parents should study information about its composition, method of use and possible adverse reactions and contraindications.

Properties and composition of Snoop children's nasal spray

Snoop nasal spray is produced by the world-famous German pharmaceutical giant STADA with a proven reputation. The composition of the drug includes:

  • xylometazoline hydrochloride;
  • potassium dihydrogen phosphate;
  • sea and purified water.

In pediatrics, Snoop is used as a vasoconstrictor. The effect of the spray is aimed at:

  • narrowing of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa;
  • relief of swelling of the nasal mucosa;
  • elimination of obstruction of the nasal passages;
  • restoration of full respiratory function.

The result occurs within a few minutes after spraying the product into the nasal cavity. In this case, the therapeutic effect lasts up to 3-4 hours.

Indications for use in children

The use of the drug is indicated for:

  • acute respiratory viral infections with signs of rhinitis;
  • acute allergic rhinitis;
  • seasonal allergic rhinoconjunctivitis;
  • inflammation of the mucous membrane of one or more paranasal sinuses;
  • inflammatory process of the mucous membrane of the auditory tube and tympanic cavity;
  • infectious inflammation of the middle ear - the medicine is used as an additional remedy to relieve swelling of the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx;
  • the need for rhinoscopy and other types of diagnostic studies in the nasal cavity.

The drug is prescribed by a pediatrician. In this case, the doctor takes into account the health status and age of the small patient. Independent use of Snoop in children, especially infants under 1 year of age, is prohibited.

At what age is the drug allowed to be used?

At what age can Snoop spray be used for children? According to the instructions for use, the medicine in the form of a 0.1% solution is prohibited for use in children under 6 years of age. For young patients under 2 years of age, a drug with a concentration of the active substance of 0.05% can be used.

Thus, Snoop is approved for use for children from the first days of life. When taking, you should follow the recommended dosage and frequency of use.

Instructions for use for children under one year of age and older

The drug is a colorless transparent liquid, packaged in plastic bottles with a spray cap. Each container contains 15 ml of medicinal solution - this amount is enough on average for 150 applications. The bottles are placed in thick cardboard packaging with instructions for use. In the photo you can see what the spray looks like. Information on the dosage regimen of the drug is presented in the table.

Age group, yearsRecommended DosesMethod of use
≤ 2 In children age category 0+, the product is used only as prescribed by a doctor.
2-6 1 injection of 0.05% solution into each nasal passage no more than 3 times a dayAfter removing the cap, use a few presses on the rim of the sprayer to make a test spray into the air. The child, in a sitting position with his head tilted back slightly, needs to insert the tip into the nose and spray the medicine once. Then you need to ask the baby to inhale. After this, the procedure must be repeated with the other nasal passage.
≥ 6 1 injection of 0.1% solution into both nostrils no more than 3 times a day
After cleansing procedures, the baby should blow his nose. Infants under 1 year of age should carefully remove nasal contents using an aspirator. If you spray Snoop without first clearing the nasal cavity of mucus accumulations, the medicine will settle on the secretions and will not have a therapeutic effect.

The manufacturer does not recommend changing the prescribed dosage of the drug on your own. Only a doctor can adjust the dosage regimen. Large doses of the medicine can cause burns to the baby's mucous membranes. In addition, an overdose of Snoop can negatively affect the functioning of the respiratory, nervous and cardiovascular systems, as well as cause digestive problems.

For young patients under 6 years of age, it is not recommended to use the drug for longer than 3 days; for older children, the course of treatment should not exceed 1 week. In some cases, the pediatrician can extend the period of use of the spray for preschool children to 7 days. Like all drugs with a vasoconstrictor effect, this drug, if the terms of use are not observed, can cause addiction and lead to adverse reactions.

Contraindications

Contraindications to the use of the drug:

  • rapid heartbeat - over 90 beats per minute;
  • severe atherosclerosis;
  • constant or episodic increase in intraocular pressure;
  • atrophic rhinitis;
  • hyperthyroidism;
  • operations on the meninges;
  • high blood pressure - when persistently exceeding 140/90 mm Hg. Art.;
  • hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

The spray should be used with caution in infants under 1 year of age. Along with the listed absolute contraindications, the use of Snoop has relative limitations:

  • cardiac ischemia;
  • prostatic hyperplasia;
  • diabetes.

When visiting a doctor, parents must inform him about all the diseases in the child’s medical history. This measure will help avoid the development of possible complications.

Interaction with other drugs

When applied topically, the drug is absorbed by the body in minimal quantities, and its concentration in the blood cannot be determined even using the most modern diagnostic techniques. The combined use of Snoop with monoamine oxidase inhibitor drugs and tricyclic antidepressants is prohibited. The spray interacts effectively with other groups of drugs without affecting their properties.

Side effects in a child

Possible adverse reactions:

If any of the listed symptoms occur, you should immediately stop using the spray. If these phenomena worsen, the baby should be shown to a doctor.

Cost and analogues
