Scalp scrub- this is the key to the health and beauty of your hair. The scalp is not much different from the surface epithelium of other parts of the body, so a scrub will be a relevant way to keep it clean and healthy.

“A scalp scrub not only helps cleanse the scalp, but also stimulates hair growth and improves its overall condition.”

Scalp scrub: benefits

Removing dead particles of epithelium is not the only purpose of the scrub. After using styling products, some of them remain on the scalp, accumulating over time and causing unpleasant sensations and consequences (itching, redness of the scalp, flaking, dandruff).

In addition, periodic use of a scrub at home helps stimulation of blood circulation , and this is: blood supply to the hair follicles, regulation of the secretion of the sebaceous glands and preparation of the skin for deep penetration of therapeutic agents.

The essence of the procedure

Peeling compositions are applied (rubbed in) with gentle massaging movements. only on damp but not washed hair . The entire procedure takes at least 3-4 minutes. Only some formulations that include components nourishing the roots are not washed off within a quarter of an hour.

Scalp peeling - This is also a hair scrub. And this fact should be taken into account by owners of colored hair. Along with the remnants of styling products and damaged hair scales, the scrub will partially remove the dye.

When choosing the composition of a peeling, the type of hair and skin is taken into account.

Contraindications for using the scrub

Despite all its usefulness, you should not overuse head scrubbing.

Rule which should be followed: for oily hair and scalp peeling is indicated once a week, for normal and dry scalps - once every two weeks.

This procedure should be completely abandoned if there are wounds, abrasions and cracks in the skin; for hypersensitive skin that reacts to all manipulations with allergic rashes.

Homemade scrub recipes

Sea salt is added to all homemade peeling compositions as an exfoliant - it itself is the simplest scalp scrub, the recipe of which only involves adding a small amount of water.

Nourishing scrubs

Recipe 1

Two tablespoons of salt plus the same amount olive oil. Rub into the roots for 3-4 minutes, then wash off with shampoo.

Recipe 2

Ready-made hair balm (3 tablespoons) plus a tablespoon of salt. Apply to damp hair, massage for about five minutes and rinse with water.

Recipe 3

For peeling dry skin, it is better to combine salt with fermented milk products (kefir or yogurt) - 2 tbsp. l. + 2 tbsp. l. Apply to damp hair, massage for no more than 5 minutes, rinse.

Recipe 4

This scrub option will stimulate hair growth. Take sea salt (1/2 cup) and mix with finely chopped, washed onion. The onion should look like mush, and the finished mixture with salt should look like thick cream or sour cream. The scrub should be warm. After applying the mixture to the skin (for convenience, part your hair) and massage, leave the scrub for a while (up to 15 minutes), then rinse.

Recipe 5

If you experience severe hair loss, a nettle scrub will help. A handful of salt is poured with a decoction of nettle leaves. After massaging the skin, hold the mixture for up to 10 minutes.

Soft scrubs that relieve irritation

Soft scrub recipes are designed for dry and sensitive skin. If you have hypersensitive skin that reacts painfully even to gentle ingredients, you need to discuss the possibility of scalp peeling with a specialist.

Recipe 1

Sea salt - 3 tbsp. l., clay (black, white or blue) - 2 tbsp. l., decoction of herbs (linden, nettle or chamomile) - 1 tbsp. l, as well as a couple of drops of aroma oil are added if desired. Apply to hair, leave for a quarter of an hour, rinse hair with plain water (without shampoo).

Recipe 2

Egg yolk, juice of half a lemon, coarse salt (2 tbsp.), lavender oil (1-2 drops). As in recipe No. 1, leave for 25 minutes, only rinse with shampoo.

Essential oils in hair scrubs

The recipe for using essential oils looks like this: 3 tablespoons of finely ground sea salt + 2 tablespoons of hair balm that suits you + drops essential oil(2-3 drops are enough).

Depending on the purpose, choosing oils:

  • burdock - for strengthening;
  • chamomile/jasmine/rose/sage – for moisturizing;
  • lemon/milissa/lavender/grapefruit – anti-fat;
  • cedar/pine/ tea tree– against falling out;
  • lemon / lavender / orange / tea tree / geranium - against dandruff.

After several procedures (at least 3, but no more than 6) with an interval of one or two weeks, so as not to overly irritate the scalp, and having achieved a noticeable effect, it is recommended to postpone the procedure for several months.

Are peelings really necessary for the scalp, and if so, what kind? Lena Korenkova understands.

It’s difficult to live without conditioner and hair mask, but it’s possible. But why peeling or scrub is needed here is a question. What, is this very scalp poorly renewed without our help? Is shampoo not enough? Our grandmothers and mothers somehow did not complain about the lack of peelings.

However, now they exist.

At first, products of this format appeared from brands that specialize in hair care: Nioxin, DSD de Luxe, Alterna, Paul Mitchell, Davines. The idea was picked up by The Body Shop, Natura Siberica, Kiehl’s, Collistar. (It looks like the list will continue next year.)

The main task of peelings, of course, is to cleanse and exfoliate the scalp. In addition, they protect against dandruff (and fight it if it has already appeared), relieve itching, soothe irritation, improve microcirculation and temporarily reduce sebum production. Most products contain menthol, so a cooling effect is a bonus.

I ordered my first peeling about four years ago. And by chance I got hooked - I realized that it’s useful to ventilate your head not only from the inside, but from the outside too.

This is what I think about the peels that I tried.

Scalp peeling 1.3 Peeling, Dixidox de Luxe

Promises: eliminate hyperkeratosis, prevent dandruff, moisturize. It is recommended to use 1 per week - apply to dry/wet skin, massage, leave for 5-15 minutes, rinse.

Lena: “Sometimes, you know, some whim starts in the brain, and it’s useless to resist it. So at the beginning of 2013, I suddenly wanted long hair (although it was already below my shoulder blades), and I immediately ordered a carload of DSD de Luxe ampoules, shampoos, masks. For a snack, I threw peeling into the basket. I haven’t been to BeautyInsider yet, but I loved #everythingnewandusual. I remember my impressions well. Firstly, I was surprised that the scrubbing particles are washed out without effort at all (I was afraid that they would get stuck in the hair:) Secondly, this is a new and unusual feeling of absolute cleanliness. The state is like after a bath and a cold shower, such an “updated version” of you.

Hair roots stay clean longer. I usually wash my hair every morning, otherwise by lunchtime on the second day I desperately need dry shampoo. And the next day after peeling, the hair roots remain fresh, you don’t have to wash your hair or use it.

Another thing I love about this peel is its light styling effect. It gives volume: both at the root and along the entire length. There is more space between the hairs and they look thicker than they really are. I think this is important for those who have a real problem with thinning and hair loss.

P.S. I grew my hair then. But I cut my hair right away :))”

Price: 2638 rub. (200 ml) on the website simone.su.

Peeling shampoo Dercos Micro Peel, Vichy

Promises: deep cleansing (salicylic acid 1.3%), reducing itching and refreshing. Suitable for daily use. Can be used alone (instead of shampoo) or as preparatory stage: Apply, massage, leave for three minutes.

Lena: “I don’t understand whether there is an effect or not. Probably not. There are few scrubbing particles, and during the massage they are almost not felt. The gel foams weakly and somehow doesn’t wash my hair very well, so I don’t use it instead of shampoo. Together - yes. But on the second day you still have to wash your hair. Refreshing? Well, mediocre.

I liked the thin “spout” dispenser (see entry photo). I don’t like waiting several minutes in the shower for the product to work. I go to the mirror, apply it along my partings, go to work, and when I wake up, I go to wash my hair. So with the “everyone is on fire and I’m on fire” mode, this is one of the most commonly used peels. I hope that after this, the ampoules and oils that I rub in before bed will penetrate and work better. However, I wouldn’t take it a second time (see reasons above).

I don’t understand why Vichy chose such a masculine fragrance, something between a woody men’s perfume and the “Star” balm. I felt like a “random buyer” of a product for men.

Price: 1116 rub. (200 ml) on the official website.

Shampoo-talasso hair scrub Healty Scalp Talasso-Scrub Shampoo, Collistar

Promises: improve microcirculation, activate hair growth, eliminate dandruff. Created on the basis of sea salt.

Lena: “The scrub foams well and cleanses the scalp well; you can really use it without shampoo. And at the same time, without conditioner, because it does not tangle the hair (after Vichy, conditioner is necessary). The texture is reminiscent of the famous Clarins Tonic Body Polisher - it massages noticeably. Grains of salt dissolve completely in water. In a word, there are only advantages: economical, refreshing, slightly adds volume, smells like mint.”

Price: 2572 rub. (250 ml) on the L’Etoile website.

Scrub for intensive cleansing of the scalp Deep Micro-Exfoliating Scalp Treatment, Kiehl’s

Promises: exfoliate and nourish, restore balance to the scalp, eliminate itching, refresh. Contains apricot kernels, argan nut shells, rosemary oil, menthol. Recommended use 1-2 times a week: apply to dry or damp skin, leave for 5 minutes and rinse.

Lena: “Mint is the most minty, hot. While the scrub is on the skin, you can feel the blood rushing to it. But even when you wash it off, the cooling lasts for about an hour and a half. I get a kick out of it. I’ve almost finished the tube, I want to repeat it.”

Price: 1690 rub. (100 ml) on the official website.

Scrub with fruit enzymes Caviar Clinical Exfoliating Scalp Facial, Alterna

Promises to exfoliate, moisturize and soothe the scalp. Contains zinc, salicylic acid, fruit enzymes and panthenol. Directions for use: apply to damp skin, massage using the applicator for 3-4 minutes.

Lena: “At first, the Alterna exfoliant did not impress me. Does not create root volume and gives almost no feeling of coolness. But at the beginning of November, my scalp suddenly rebelled. Either because of the hat, or because of something else. In short, it started to itch and peel. I used Alterna for two days and everything stopped.

Alterna also moisturizes noticeably better than others. Previously, I would have said, “Why do I need it?” Be proud that I'm so moisturized from my toes to the tips of my ears? The other day I listened to a webinar by Tiina Orasmäe-Meder about cleansing the skin and figured out: before removing dead epithelium, you need to soften the “bridges” between the horny cells. The drier the skin, the more difficult it is for cells to separate as they stick together. That is, good hydration is the essence of better exfoliation.

Instead of fruit seeds, it contains synthetic polymer spheres. From the same webinar, Tiiny learned that due to their ideal shape, they do not leave micro-scratches and are suitable for sensitive skin. But it seemed to me that the balls were more difficult to wash out. I pulled out a few when I was already styling. Not pleasant."

Price: 3850 rub. (88 ml) on the website authentica.love.

Conclusions: “Peeling is a useful thing for those who struggle with hair loss, dandruff, irritation or grow hair: ampoules, lotions, oils and masks for the scalp should be better absorbed into well-cleansed skin. And just pleasant for everyone else. Because yes, peelings provide a more significant feeling of freshness than shampoos.

But you shouldn’t expect that oily skin will become normal, and after using two bottles, you will be able to wash your hair less often. To be honest, I’m not at all sure that this is even possible. To the question: “What to do with oily scalp?”, the trichologist answered - nothing. This is not a problem, but the norm. The skin must protect itself with a hydrolipid layer. If you feel the need to wash your hair every day, it means it copes well with this function. After all, we wash our faces every day and don’t make a drama out of it.

Of the five peelings that participated in the comparison, I liked three. DSD de Luxe is perhaps the best at cleansing and volumizing. Kiehl's - Cools. Collistar replaces shampoo and is good for massage.

What peelings for the scalp have you tried and would you recommend?”

There are many more hair follicles and sebaceous glands on the scalp than on the face. This is why dead skin cells and sebum quickly accumulate on the scalp. Thanks to its texture, the scrub removes all excess and deeply cleanses the scalp. Another advantage of using a scrub is that any skincare products, including balms and masks, work better on exfoliated skin, since the ingredients penetrate much deeper. But how can you save money and make a scalp scrub at home? We share simple recipes.

Trichologists unanimously tell women about the need for deep cleansing of the scalp. After all, the benefits of peeling for this area are extremely beneficial! It allows you not only to “free” the skin from keratinized particles and residues of cosmetic styling products, but also restores oxygen enrichment of the skin, increases blood circulation, which promotes active hair growth, reduces excess sebum and even gets rid of obsessive dandruff.

In general, this miracle procedure brings life back to our hair! Therefore, take advantage of these light scrubs for peeling the scalp at home, which must be repeated regularly if you want to have healthy and beautiful hair.

There is nothing easier than preparing a scalp scrub at home. The easiest way is to use sea salt. It is rich in useful microelements: iodine, calcium, iron, sodium, zinc, etc. But you can also use other abrasive components: table salt, sugar, coffee, soda. To prevent irritation and dryness from peeling, add softening and moisturizing ingredients to the scrub (essential oil, kefir, egg yolks, etc.). With such cleansing, the scalp will also receive nutrition at the same time.

  • For salt peeling, choose finely ground salt, because large fractions can severely scratch the skin. Coarse salt can be ground in a blender or coffee grinder;
  • apply peeling only to damp hair and exclusively in the root zone;
  • wash your hair after peeling, not before;
  • if the homemade scrub contains nutritional components, after the massage it can be left on the hair as a mask for 10-15 minutes with insulation with a cap and towel;
  • for oily hair, the optimal frequency of the procedure is 2 times a month; for dry hair, it is enough to scrub once a month;
  • Calculate the amount of ingredients for a homemade scrub depending on your hair length.

Be careful: dyed hair may lose its color brightness from such a scrub, while light hair, on the contrary, may become colored if you use coffee peeling on the head. Therefore, for such hair it is better to use purchased products.

Peeling the scalp at home: scrub recipes

Recipe 1. Salt scrub

  • 1 tbsp. l. finely ground sea salt
  • 3 drops of essential oil that suits your problem (for example, burdock against hair loss)

Mix sea salt and water at room temperature (you can use hair balm) in a 1:1 ratio, stir until the consistency of liquid sour cream. Add essential oil. This can be lavender, lemon, tea tree oil - for oily hair or dandruff; jasmine, chamomile or rose oil - for dry and weakened hair.

Gently apply the mixture along the partings, and then massage the skin for several minutes. After this, rinse the scrub well. By the way, take advantage of the tips about...

  • 2 tbsp. l. any cosmetic clay (for example, blue)
  • 1 tbsp. l. water

Girls who regularly exfoliate their scalp at home notice that their hair stays clean longer, and the overall quality and general state hair. Curls become fresh, full, hair loss is reduced and new growth is activated.

In order to maintain healthy hair and scalp, regular care is necessary. A scalp scrub is one of the most popular means for healing hair follicles and does a much better job of cleansing the skin than regular shampoo. There are many recipes effective means, which can be easily prepared at home from available products.

Action of the scrub

Scalp scrubbing is a much less popular and underrated procedure compared to facial scrubbing, but it also has high efficiency in hair health. This procedure solves a whole range of common problems:

  • removes dead particles of epithelium and excess sebum, allowing the skin to actively breathe;
  • stimulates blood flow to the hair follicles, thereby stimulating nutrition and accelerating growth;
  • improves the absorption of nutrients if you carry out a cleansing procedure the day before using a cosmetic mask;
  • helps improve skin metabolic processes;
  • strengthens hair and prevents hair loss;
  • improves appearance hair;
  • eliminates dandruff.

Among other things, the scrub helps get rid of the remnants of styling products, balms and gels, of which a considerable amount remains due to daily use, and regular shampoo is unable to completely remove them.

There are some contraindications for use. The procedure cannot be carried out if there are abrasions, cracks or any other mechanical damage on the scalp. Not recommended for those with very sensitive skin prone to blemishes. allergic reactions. If you have recently had your hair dyed, laminated or highlighted, then you should discard the scrub, as the dye can be partially removed.

Before carrying out the procedure, the skin must be prepared. First of all, you need to make sure that there is no damage. It is recommended to scrub before the main shampoo, but if your hair is very oily, it is better to rinse it before that. Slightly damp hair should be divided into equal parts to avoid tangling and damage to the skin, and only then apply the product.

Home Recipes

There are many recipes for making a scrub at home:

  1. 1. Sugar based. The most common recipe requires: one tablespoon of brown sugar, a teaspoon of any shampoo, a few drops of tea tree oil and lavender essential oil (for those with dry hair, tea tree oil should be excluded from the recipe). Mix all ingredients until a homogeneous consistency is obtained and first apply with massage movements to the scalp, and then to the hair along the entire length. Keep the mixture on your head for 5 minutes and then rinse with warm water. If there was not enough water, you can use shampoo; after the procedure, it is recommended to use a balm. This product allows you to quickly cleanse your scalp and hair, soften and simplify combing.
  2. 2. Salt scrub. To prepare you will need: 20 grams of sea salt and one tablespoon each of burdock oil and olive oil. To begin with, coarse sea salt must be crushed in a mortar or coffee grinder, and then mixed with oils. This product, unlike the previous one, is applied only to the roots of the hair, and not to the entire length. After application, you need to gently massage the skin for 5-7 minutes and at the final stage, wash your hair with shampoo. You can also use sea salt without adding any additional ingredients, in this case the effect will be more aggressive, so you need to act carefully and use a nourishing balm. Salt scrub accelerates cell regeneration, prevents hair loss, improves blood circulation and strengthens hair follicles.
  3. 3. Coffee. To prepare this remedy, you will need: 20 grams of coffee grounds, a teaspoon of lemon juice, the yolk of one chicken egg, 20 grams of honey. To ensure everything is mixed evenly, you need to melt the honey, beat a chicken egg and add it lemon juice and coffee. The scrub must be applied to the scalp, cover the head with a plastic bag or film and wrap it with a towel. You need to keep this mask for at least 40 minutes, then remove the towel and bag and actively massage your head, and finally rinse with warm water. This product is not recommended for frequent use; once every two weeks is sufficient.
  4. 4. With vodka and pepper. To prepare, you need to take three tablespoons of vodka and dissolve approximately 10 aspirin tablets in it, add a little shampoo, 5 grams of red pepper. To achieve maximum effect, scrubbing should be done with a toothbrush. Carefully walk along the hair growth lines and apply part of the product to the ends of the strands. Leave the mixture on your head for 5 minutes and rinse with shampoo. This scrub improves blood circulation and strengthens the hair follicle.
  5. 5. Cosmetic clay. There are many varieties of cosmetic clay, and you need to choose one or another based on your goals. Red clay is more suitable for dry and sensitive skin, blue clay has a pronounced cleansing property and has an anti-inflammatory effect, black clay effectively absorbs and absorbs toxins. The clay should be mixed with warm water in equal proportions and applied to the scalp until completely dry, then wash the hair.
  6. 6. White clay and cosmetic mud. Clay is particularly effective in preventing hair loss, and mud strengthens roots and promotes rapid regeneration of damaged skin tissue. To prepare a scrub, you just need to mix cosmetic mud or white clay with sea salt and apply to the scalp with massage movements, leave until completely dry and wash your hair with shampoo.

It is important to note that the frequency of peeling depends on the type of hair and scalp. For oily types, the procedure is carried out no more than once a week, for dry, normal and combination types - no more than once every two weeks. It is recommended to carry out the procedure in courses of approximately three months and repeat after a three-month break.
